I wanted to get him a book that would be inspirational and help him on his path to sobriety. He is only 26. I was thinking about purchasing the book "Moments of Clarity " by Christopher Kennedy Lawford. If you know if this book is good, or if you happen to know any books that may be better, I would love to know! thank you

If your friend has not accepted he has a problem, there isn't much you are going to be able to do to make him see it. And he will not embrace or even try sobriety until he accepts there is a problem.

A book won't help. He needs long term rehab and AA and NA.

I would suggest sitting down with him and telling him how concerned you are and how he is not only hurting himself but everyone around him. Tell him that you are not going to abandom him, but that you want him to consider your points. Stay clear of insults, like "you are addicted " and such, as that can breed defense lockdown. I would suggest getting more of his friends involved; the more support he has, the better. Get him a book if you want, but it will take more than that to get this sort of addiction solved, and possibly long-term rehab. Depending on the severity of the addiction, he has a long road ahead, but everything is do-able. Stay positive!

I was addicted to coke pretty bad, and i read this book called beautiful boy by david sheff. Its a fathers journey through his sons meth problem but it opened my eyes, and i was able to see how i was hurting the people around me. those are serious problems & i applaud you for going through this with him. i wish i wouldve had a friend like you. good look on the sobriety path.

Has your friend ever though about going to a rehab facility, or going for any type of treatment to help him with his addictions? From a personal experience with my close friend, she was seriously addicted to both vicodin and oxycontin and she sought help and I cannot even tell you the difference. She is a totally different person, and sober. If you're interested in the facility she went to here is the site for it...
