Question: Crystal meth addiction?

(Posted by: invalid_screenname1 on 2008-09-26 12:15:03)

A friend of mine has just told me that she has been using meth for 2- 3 months. She says that she wants to stop and i believe her, however, she dose not want to resort to rehab yet. My question is is there anything she can do when she has an intense craving? Please just answer the question, i don't need anyone telling me she needs rehab. i know that is a possibility but i want to a least give her a chance.

Just be there for her now that she is coming down. hold her, hold her hair when she pukes, provide the blankets for the shakes and the cool rags for the sweats..... its not going to be easy to do it alone..... best of luck to you guys.

Honestly? I was addicted to prescription Morphine for 2 years until I decided that I was going to die if I didn't stop. So I flushed them down the toilet so that even if I craved them there wouldn't be any and I'd be too sick to get more. It was tough but by the 5th day I felt unbelievable...

NA (narcotics anonymous) has meetings everywhere at all times of the day. It's become nearly as widespread as AA. Encourage her to find a meeting nearby and attend. You might even want to go with her. There's no commitment, no rehab, just try it on for size and see if it fits. She will probably get a lot of tips from other recovering addicts on how to handle those cravings. Good luck...

Sugar - She could also try “no doze” or over the counter diet pills but they won’t eliminate the addiction. It’ll at least get her away from the meth

If you want to be a help to her, this is something that will take serious dedication. As she has been taking this drug two things have happened, 1. her body has been altered and she now has a physical need for the drug and 2. all of her feel good hormones have dropped drastically. If you want to help her you have to realize that this is physically impossible for her to do on her own and that her inevitable depression following the use of this drug makes it hard for her to think clearly. You will need to be with her constantly. You need to talk to her about concerns she might have had, things that caused her to use etc, and try to find better solutions for her problems. Also, just chat with her and try to make her laugh and help her to feel happy. It will take a minimum of two months for her hormones to reach normal levels even though she is no longer using. So, she will be prone to depression for while. Remember, she started using for a reason, and unless she finds a Solution she will eventually begin using again. Good luck

A drug called Aripirazole keeps me away from speed. meth/ speed releases dopamine in the brain which gives you a high. If dopamine is low Aripirazole restores enough to stave off depression and cravings but wont let dopamine get too high so you dont get a drug rush or even psychosis. Think methadone and heroin.
