Question: I was a meth addict for 25 years and i would like to help others in my shoes! any suggestions?

I am a recovered meth addict . I used 'without intervention for 25 years. I wish to use this negaeive experience in a positive way, but I don't know how! Enlighten me! I was never arrested, therefore; never received any intervention, but God's! It doesn't matter how long I have been clean(6mos). I know in my heart it is gone and I have all the resistance, if I need it, through Him! What a truly wonderful feeling that is and I am oh- so thankful! Praise God I wish to thank everyone for responding so positively to my question. I appreciate your answers more than you could know! Since I was not ever arrested or voluntarily admitted to a program, I have no connections with society on these matters. It was only through God that I received intervention. How would I approach them, if they would not think me crazy? |

You can help counsel others who had the problem, and you don't need a degree for that. Volunteer at a homeless shelter or a church that helps the homeless , a lot of them are addicted, and be there for the people who need someone understanding. If it is possible you could go to school and council others for a living. Awesome job on quitting!! |

Well first of all congratulations on your recovery. I know that sh*t is tough to kick and without help....virtually impossible. I would first maybe look up some rehab centers in your area and give them a call about coming in and taking to people trying to kick the habit....or maybe even contact your local law enforcement agency about going along with an officer to a D.A.R.E program they do at schools.... things like that will get your foot in the door and open up different avenues to take. Good luck and once again congratulations! §Jodee§ |

Start a program for people with a similar issue, like the N.A./ A.A organizations do. Speak to different churches... most of them will allow meetings of this sort to be held on their premises. Or, if you can afford it, buy a house specifically for this purpose. Print up flyers, spread your intentions by word of mouth, post it in grocery stores or wherever possible. GO to NA/ AA meetings, and when they ask about any announcements, stand up, introduce yourself, and let it be known that way. I'm a recovering heroin addict... was addicted for 23-25 years, myself. Have 19 months clean, thank God. I go to meetings. Good luck toyou, and I hope you suceed. Congrats on being clean!! |

How long are you clean. Your sobriety is the most imprtant thing so if it was a temptation to use again that you shouldnt do it. If you are ok with that, than go to NA meetings and offer to be a sponsor. Or visit your local communities drug prevention/ youth counseling organization. Check with the local high school, maybe you could be a mentor (if you dont have any criminal record). It is so wonderful that youwant to share your story. Many many families and recovering addicts will be encouraged by your story. |

Volunteer at local homeless shelters. Show up to meetings at NA and become a sponsor to a young person who is trying to kick the habit. |
