Meth Addict

Question: Can anyone permanently recover from being a meth addict?

Can anyone actually PERMANENTLY recover from meth? Because i have not seen it once, my uncle and two aunts and sister and cousin are so bad on it, my uncle went to prison for 8 years for having a meth lab and he is using now more then ever. As for my two aunts, they have been in prison for 10 years and they go right back to it once they get out. My sister has been to rehab twice and even got clean for 4 years but is on it again. My cousin now has Hepatitus C from a bad drug needle & has life in prison and is dying in the jail hospital because he would not give up the drug. WHY do they keep doing this? If they get clean why do they always go right back to it? I no longer believe there is such thing as an ex meth addict. Ive seen alcoholics and other drug addicts overcome their addiction, but not meth. Why is this?

Of course. my brother was a meth junkie for 20 yrs. alot of jail time, you name it, he began worshiping the lord jesus 5 yrs ago and has never looked back. with God, ALL things are possible!!!

Meth as in methodone the heroin substitute..? Yes people can recover physically but as you have seen yourself the battle against the mental reasons is the hardest to beat. I have known a few people who took that stuff, addicts, 1 died, od, 1 has been clean for 10years and i doubt he will ever go down that path again, and the other two still take it. In order to permanently 'cure' an addiction the person has to want to give it up for good, they then detox BUT many don't get the councelling that is most important or the adequate aftercare. But it IS beatable.

I am truly sorry, that must be horrible to go through. Meth is one of the hardest, if not the hardest drug out there. From my understanding it is possible to beat, but very tough, as in you've witnessed. There are programs you may wish to google, with keywords like 'families of meth users', and contact about what you're experiencing, and for advice on how to deal with your family and encourage them to get help. I really recommend you check them out. I commend you for staying clean in an environment where it is so prevalent, and caring so deeply for them when they are being so unfair to both you and themselves.
