Would it be possible to be functioning meth addict? Could a real meth addict live a sustainable life where they are doing meth in secret but still succeed on the job and still have a social life and a good marriage? Meth addicts are always portrayed by Hollywood and the media as completely out of control. I know there are coke users who are quite successful by conventional societal standards. They do lines in the bathroom one second and then they go back to their job the next second as a businessman or doctor or lawyer or actor or musician, etc. And folks around them don't even really know they are addicted. Is it that easy to conceal meth use?

You will show signs of anorexia which will show other systemic signs and symptoms of malnutrition. Not to mention your teeth will rot away. There is no way to conceal meth use. There are too many freakin chemicals in the drug that have adverse effects on the body to try and conceal it

Comparing meth to cocaine is like comparing AIDS with the flu. Meth is a synthetic drug, while cocaine is derived from opium, which is the product of the common poppy. The effects of meth are much more severe than cocaine, as thus, a meth addict will never be able to hide his/ her addiction.

Absolutely...I did it for 3 years and that includes the lines in the bathroom while working in an office. But, what will happen at some point is that you will no longer be able to hide your addiction and/ or you will eventually become non-functioning. And when the supply dries up for a few days, then you are horribly dope sick. I was also drinking at the same time which helped to calm me down enough physically to be able to eat some days. Before the "completely out of control " part comes (and it will), people will start to notice you're not eating, you have a lot of "nervous energy ", you become irritable and impatient. Things that you can pass off as temporary problems at home or work, stomach is upset so I can't eat, etc. It can be that easy to conceal a meth addiction, for a while anyway. If the people around you don't know what to look for or aren't paying close attention they'll believe the lies. Everyone's body is different but at some point, people around you will know something is wrong or weird about you. Paranoia, physical illness or problems in relationships will eventually happen. Meth is a particularly nasty drug and is extremely hard on your body. I'm blessed to have asked for help and stopped it all when I did. I haven't had anything for over 20 years.

Ultimately, no. Untreated addiction leads to one or more of three things: jails, institutions and/ or death. Furthermore, the motivation for you to take the drug will not go unnoticed by others. "Functioning addict " is an oxymoron - addicts care ONLY about ONE thing and everything else suffers. If you are the mythical individual who can "handle " being a functional user, hats off to you.
