I am a mother of a 34yr old son who has stopped taking meth but is suffering from depression , and short attention spans. Does anyone have more info for me about what it feels like once you stop? I am clueless about the withdrawal? |

I think the best thing for you to do would be to seek professional help for your son. Withdrawals from hard drugs like Crystal Meth can be very tricky and can cause emotional problems for the victim's family. If you checked him into rehab (for example), however, there would be a professionally trained staff that would know what was best for your son and how to cure. I suggest you do some research online and try to find a good rehab center for your son. Sites like recoveryconnection.org are a good place to start. Trust me, when your son is completely drug-free, you'll be glad you did. |

What do you want to know? Depression is a big part of it because meth eats up all the dopamine's that your brain has and those are what gives you the ability to be happy. Paxil has been a great help to many but it would be good if you would just tell you Dr. what you are going through and get some medical help. It is a hard addiction to kick but it can be done however it takes about a year before you start feeling normal again. Hang in there because the side affects from not quiting are far worse. |

I did a quick search and found a website that might help - they have discussion forms and info about meth withdrawal. Just keep in mind that you are doing everything you can for your son. This is his problem and he needs to get through it in his own way. You are not a professional, so get him in touch with one if he needs it. Otherwise, remember to take care of yourself. Try to find a place you can talk to mothers who have gone through the same thing. Your son is so lucky to have someone as supportive as you! |
