Methamphetamine treatment: There are recovery centers that focus on meth abuse specifically and there are recovery centers that offer treatment for all drug addiction. In general, treatment usually consists of a 28-30 day inpatient facility. Most places accept clients who need a mild detox. Some centers require that clients be clean and detoxed. Patients are taught coping skills, living skills, and more than likely the 12 step program. Group therapy, one on one counseling and family counseling are offered. After completing the inpatient, aftercare of some kind is encouraged along with becoming involved in the 12 step community at the local level. There is always hope. Successful long term outcome is completely dependent upon how seriously the person wants to stay clean. That involves a complete and total change in living life. New friends, new ways of thinking, and behaving. The addict must put his/ her recovery first at all cost. It has been suggested that meth addiction may be self medicating for the disorder of ADD/ ADHD. So, if this is the case then the addict needs to be evaluated by a competent psychiatrist. In my own experience with the addicted population group therapy is a more accountable therapy because peers will usually challenge each other on their own thinking errors, and behavior, especially in early recovery. Therapy with a therapist is beneficial in dealing with personal issues, trauma, and psychological disorders. I suggest getting recovery living down first. Suggestions: Depending on where you live, you will most likely be able to find a recovery center in your area. Most take insurance and of course cash, some take government aid or a sliding scale payment schedule. It's important that the addict see the importance of going into treatment, otherwise they will leave shortly after they get admitted. Interventions are helpful and sometimes offered through your local recovery centers. If you have any more questions feel free to email me. Good luck! |

I have two family members who are afflicted with methampethamine induced schizophrenia. Unfortunately, one commited suicide and the other is seeking treatment. I wish I could suggest something for you, but I'm as clueless as you are. I just wanted to let you know that someone else is going through it. |
