Question: Having emotional problems after quitting meth?
(Posted by: kw on 2010-08-17 23:10:50)
I did a lot of meth and a lot of adderall for years and usage spiked about a year ago. i stopped about 5 months ago. i would inject and smoke meth and take adderall orally, snort it, or even sometimes plug it. i can't sleep without taking something since i stopped. i haven't done any drugs in months because i got pregnant. every time i see or hear about someone doing drugs or if i think about drugs i get really fidgety, my heart rate goes up, i feel stressed and anxious, i can't think strait, sometimes i sweat, my pupils dilate, i breath faster, and it can even send me into a panic attack. i was wondering why i this is happening. i dont want to do drugs anymore but i cant keep myself from getting like this whenever i think about drugs. its been getting worse over the past week and i haven't been able to eat much. should i mention it to the doctor? i just need any advice please. i dont want to go back to drugs. thank you |

Wow, you were seriously addicted. Those drugs mess with your brain chemistry....but your brain can return back to normal, it just needs time. You will probably feel that way when hearing about drugs for a long time to come - an addict wants to get high. Just try to remind yourself about what is important and don't make the mistake of thinking that you can take a pill to make your craving/ addiction go away. Most of the addicts I know who successfully quit drugs didn't take anything. The unsuccessful ones just traded one addiction for another. You have to be strong to stay clean. Your baby deserves that, even if you don't think you do. |

Yes, you will feel this way for a while. Your body associated specific physical responses with the drug, that is when anyone speaks of drugs you get that associated emotional reaction. Try to avoid ppl who do drugs, do not watch movies where drug use is explicit. Look into "emotional freedom technique " look for videos called "eft " on youtube, it will help with your addiction and will just make u feel much better generally. i still get cravings although it's been awhile since i last used. if u can affort accupuncture, do it, it really helps with cravings to. |

Well kw I do think you should see your doctor. I believe you are having anxiety connected with both not taking the drugs and perhaps wanting the escape from stress that the drugs can supply. I think you need a prescription medication for anxiety. Listen you are doing a really good thing by staying off of meth. It is a killer as I am sure you know. See your doctor sweetheart. |

View your-mental-health.8m.com/ blank_25.html about insomnia and see the posts about panic on pages 1, & h, then addictions, on page 6. The negative part of your mind still wants drugs; (and will for some considerable time; you are still an addict, just one who is not using - [personal experience] ) use the Technique For Re-Programming Negative Thoughts, in the post about anxiety, on page 1. Try the free hypnotherapy; kindly donate if helped. Use the anti panic breathing method, as needed. Herbal remedies may help. Eat smallish, high energy & nutrient density meals, often. "If they don't like yams, (sweet potato) or broccoli, cook and mash with equal parts of potato, adding butter and extra virgin olive oil, to improve the taste, and add energy, or put in a blender with some cream and light olive oil, and mix with equal parts of pea and ham or tomato soup. Don't mention what's in it: say: "It's just soup. " If bread or toast is provided, (if not multi-grain, then at least use a high fibre white bread) use a lot of butter. Seed & nutloaf is one of the best. Cashews and peanuts, a lot of peanut butter (Sanitarium have a no added sugar variety) and a little honey, preferably, rather than jelly or jam on their sandwiches. "Thickshakes ", made of blended buttermilk, with ice cream, or regular cream, possibly an egg yolk, and vanilla. Bananas and cream. Even some fast foods, like fried chicken, occasionally ". |
