27y/ o husband had a few strokes in March, he tested positive for methamphetamines, can that be due to him taking sudafed for a few weeks before the strokes? He was diagnosed with APS, and that's probably why he had the strokes. He swears up and down it was positive because of the sudafed. |

Yes, as meth is used in sudafed it probably was because of the sudafed, dont worry im sure he hasnt been taking anything ilegal. |

Not likely, but I don't know exactly which test your husband had to take. Drug tests usually test for metabolics of drugs - the chemicals that the drugs are broken down into by the body - because the drugs themselves have fairly short lifetimes. In the case of meth however, it's usually the meth itself that is tested for in a urine drug test, because about 10 - 20% of the meth ingested passes through the body in its original form. There is very little chance of testing positive for meth without actually taking meth. Yes, Sudafed and meth are related. Meth is made from the active ingredient in Sudafed, but Sudafed on its own contains no meth and therefore shouldn't register on a drug test. |
